Quella di Adrianopoli è una battaglia che ha cambiato la storia del mondo ma non è famosa come Waterloo o Stalingrado: anzi, molti non l’hanno mai sentita nominare. Eppure, secondo qualcuno, segnò addirittura la fine dell’Antichità e l’inizio del Medioevo perché mise in moto la catena di eventi che più di un secolo dopo avrebbe portato alla caduta dell’impero romano d’Occidente.

Adrianople is a battle that changed world history but is not as famous as Waterloo or Stalingrad: indeed, many have never heard of it. Yet, according to some, it even marked the end of Antiquity and the beginning of the Middle Ages because it set in motion the chain of events that more than a century later would lead to the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
